What makes our products special?

Our Designs Bostec designs, develops and manufactures precision metals seals for UHV applications. Our seals are 100% manufactured by us in our facilities in the US and Europe.

Extensive Product Scope Our products cover the five basic categories shown above, utilizing a range of exotic and special metals developed for extreme UHV. Our seals types all derive from H-Seals, which we developed and patented in the late 1990’s. We continue to refine H-Seal technology and have many variations, which are proprietary. Within the past 10 years, we have developed HiRim Gaskets, Diamond Seals, X-Energized Seals and Multi-Sided Seals.

Based On ResearchWe recently completed a six-month R&D program to measure force and penetration values of our seals as well as our competitor’s designs. Our goal was to understand the full range of metal sealing options available, and catalog their relevant design parameters for comparison. We now have the most comprehensive database in existence of force and performance data covering all basic metal seal designs. The tests results were enlightening and we were surprised to see the data overturn some long-held myths. Certainly, for the purposes of designing complex new super-UHV seals in nuclear, outer space or other extreme conditions, our data is invaluable.

Sealing Challenges Solved Bostec specializes in solving the most complex sealing problems. Our method is to study the situation on-site, determine an appropriate solution based on environmental conditions, temperature cycling, mating materials, comparative CTEs and so forth. That generally leads to production of a small number of prototypes which are then laboratory and field tested for final iterations. Production volumes are then manufactured.

Customer Confidence Bostec’s principal customers are particle accelerators, research facilities, nuclear fission and fusion agencies, space agencies and semiconductor companies. Our largest customer is CERN with whom we have an exclusive agreement for precision gaskets. Other significant customers are FermiLab, Argonne National Labs, Brookhaven National Labs, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ITER, ESRF, NASA MKS, Sierra Nevada Space, SwRi, Mirion, Varian and many others.
